The Rotary Club of Thornbury
Meetings at Eastwood Park. Falfield, Gloucestershire
Inner Wheel
President: Stephanie Fairhead
I was born in Dunstable Bedfordshire, moved to Staffordshire age 10 and attended Secondary school in Derbyshire. On marrying, our first house was in Derby, followed by moves to Bristol, Warwickshire and back to Bristol - all thanks to Rolls-Royce where Chris was an Engineer. We have now lived just outside Thornbury for the last 26 years.
Our two sons, despite only one being born in Bristol, consider themselves Bristolian, although the younger is more of a European as he spends the winter in the mountains of France and the summers in the Czech Republic! His elder brother is more conventional, living close to Bletchley with his wife and our two Grandsons and travelling into the City each day.
Before retiring I worked in Pre School education, latterly with the Reception class at our local village school. Until the last 3 years I was a volunteer member of the Independent Monitoring Board at HMP Leyhill. I thoroughly enjoyed my time ‘behind bars’ and miss many aspects of dealing with the prisoners, although I feel I will have plenty to keep me occupied in the forthcoming year with the Inner Wheel Club of Thornbury.
What is Inner Wheel? The three objects of Inner Wheel are very simple. They are to promote true friendship, encourage the ideals of personal service and to foster international understanding. We also actively support many of the activities of Thornbury Rotary Club
The Inner Wheel logo, which was adopted, is the Rotary wheel with a smaller cog inside it – the inner wheel which helps the big wheel turn. Membership is open to wives/partners/daughters of a Rotarian. It is also open to any female who is/was related to former Rotarian/Inner Wheel Member/former Inner Wheel Member or a female Rotarian.
Inner Wheel now invites ladies without any affiliation to Rotary, but agree with the principles of Fun, Friendship and Helping in our Community.
Want to join Inner Wheel? The Club meets at The Ship, Alveston on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6.45. You will be made most welcome!
